ZERO WINDOW

projects/etc by HB건축사사무소 2020. 12. 15.

Indiscretion consumption of fossil fuel accelerate the global warming. This human behavior creates an abnormal climate condition making serious problems including flood, drought and food shortage. If all the glacier at North Pole and Greenland melt, the sea water level rises by 8~10m. If all the glacier at South Pole melt, the sea water level rises by 64~70m. Sustainable architecture is not optional any more but inevitable necessary. The Cheongna City Tower that resembles a digital letter "0(zero)" is a sustainable tower emitting 0% of carbon dioxide. All the necessary electricity is supplied by the aerogenerator attached to the tower. Real Hi-Tech is not about the shape but about the sustainablity.

Window-shaped Tower

The rectangular windowshaped tower represents the image of a "Window Open to the World." Since the tower is located at the seashore, there are sea breezes during the daytime and land breezes at night. The wind speed at the top of the tower, which is at the height of 450m and above, is almost four times faster than the wind speed at the ground level. This environment provides a great location for the wind power plant. The 411 aerogenerators will create the electricity necessary to the tower and other facilities, and also will enable us to experience the invisible natural phenomenon of the wind through the rotating aerogenerators.

Circulating Beacon like a Ferris wheel

Visitors will use the ongoing-circulating glass capsule for the transportation. These capsules circulate clock wise like a Ferris wheel. The observatory is located at the top floor horizontally to maximize the floor area. As a transportation system, glass capsules are circulating along the tower. Visitors get on the capsule at the basement level. The capsule in the north tower goes up to view the northern scenery including the city of Gesung in the North Korea. When visitors get off at the top floor, they enjoy the surrounding view and use facilities such as a cocktail lounge and restaurants. Then they take the capsule again and go down the south tower while enjoying the view. The capsule penetrates the lake water and reaches to the platform at the basement. This circulating glass capsule will be a glowing rotating beacon of the city of Cheongna.

Reference Tower

First, the tower changes according to the weather condition. It looks like one tower in the clear days because the north and the south tower are connected. In the cloudy days, however, it looks like two separate towers. Second, the aerogenerators will look differently according to the wind speed of the day or the height. This will create the various facade of the tower. Third, the tower will works as a navigation. The tower looks different according to the viewer's location, and gives people a sense of their relative location in the city.
